Evaluation of Iron Status in Cats With Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy With and Without Congestive Heart Failure

Background: All organisms need iron for their survival and metabolic activity, the healing process of patients depends on this element. Hence, its deficiency can negatively affect patients’ quality life cause disorders. Although is proven an important comorbidity in human canine with heart failure, no research has been published role feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Objectives: This aimed to determine compare status cats cardiomyopathy without congestive failure. Methods: Based laboratory, radiographic, echocardiographic findings, 45 client-owned were studied divided into three groups: control, (HCM) Iron ferritin concentrations, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), serum transferrin saturation (TSAT) percentage measured compared all cats. Statistical nonparametric testing was used analyze data. Results: No groups illustrate any statistically significant difference concentration (P=0.3), (P=0.853), TIBC (P=0.1), TSAT (P=0.639). The highest lowest level observed HCM group Also, failure had other groups. Conclusion: Unlike previous studies dogs humans, our study did not show a between regarding status.
